Grade 5 Curriculum
Thoughtful, independent learners
At Milton Academy, Grade 5 students grow into thoughtful, independent learners and compassionate leaders.
They learn to consider multiple perspectives, communicate their ideas with confidence, and listen closely to understand others. As role models in the Lower School, Grade 5 students lead weekly meetings and build meaningful connections with younger students, including Kindergarteners through the buddy program.
Making an Impact
In Grade 5, students ask “What is leadership? How do leaders lead? How can I make an impact on the world?” Guided by these important questions, students explore United States history, economics, civil rights, women’s suffrage, geography, and Greek mythology. They strengthen their writing through editing, revision, persuasive essays, and poetry presentations, while also developing the organizational and technology skills needed to manage increasingly independent work. Students begin using individual Chromebooks and are expected to manage much of their coursework using learning management software.
